BOLOGNA

Bologna is a small city which can be visited in 1 day or half day.

When To Go :

July and August will be really hot and also you should better check the fair periods which it will be too busy and all hotels and tickets can be expensive.

How To Go :

There is an airport in Bologna. I preferred to fly back rom Bologna while plane tickets were cheaper. But first i reached at Bologna Central Train Station from Pisa Central Train Station after around 3 hours journey. I paid 15,70 euros for a ticket which has 2 interchanges , first one in Firenze Rifredi Station and second one in Prato Station. You can visit https://www.trenitalia.com/en.html and check ticket prices and time schedules. While there is no confirmation coming to mail adress from website , you will have to buy the ticket at train station. One of the best thing in Italy is the train lines. Train stations are always in the center and they work so often that you can move inside Italy so quickly.

Where To Stay :

It seems not possible to find a hotel for less tahn 100 euros per night. There are big hotels to stay opposite of train station.

Things To Do in Bologna :

1-) Piazza Maggiore :

Most of the things to do in Bologna is in or around Piazza Maggiore. There are also exhibitions and some organisations on the square most of the time. You can reach after a 20 mins by walk passing Independence Avenue from train station.

2-) Basilica Of Saint Petronius :

One of the most important to see in Piazza Maggiore is Saint Petronius Basilica. You can visit for free.

3-) Fountain Of Neptune :

One of the important place to see in Piazza Maggiore and the most important fountain of Bologna.

4-) Archiginnasio Of Bologna :

Another building to visit in Piazza Maggiore. The building originaly was University Of Bologna. Now you can visit Municipal Library and Theatre for free.

5-) Basilica Of Santo Stefano :

It is located behind Piazza Maggiore. It is actually one of the buildngs of a complex called 7 Churches. You can enter for free.

6-) Two Towers :

The most important symbols of Bologna. They are located next to Piazza Maggiore. Both of the towers , the taller one Asinelli and shorter one Garisenda are leaning towers like Pisa Tower. It is said that there were many towers in Bologna in middle ages an deven Bologna was known with its towers.

7-) Salaborsa Library :

Another library to visit in the square can be visited. It is a public library.

Besides all these , you can also visit all the churches along Independence Avenue.

SHOPPING

There are many places for shopping around the square. Especially for food , vegetables and fruits etc. Mercato Di Mezzo is a very famous place for shopping and to see. You can try many different kind of local cheese in delicatessens. Local cheese are really deilicious and cheap.

Note: You can use train station to leave the city. If you would like to use airport , you can go to airport from train station by bus. Bus service is not comfortable enough. Also airport was not well organised. You should better yo a bit earlier or else you can even miss the plane , international passengers and local passengers use the same entrace which causes to a long line.
