LA SPEZIA – CINQUE TERRE

Cinque Terre is a region in La Spezia Province , next to Ligurian Sea. Cinque Terre means 5 villages. So it means 5 villages next to each other on the Ligurian Sea cost. You can see all these 5 villages in a half day or maximum in 1 day.

When To Go :

It is less hot then Florence and Rome on july but still hot and really crowded. It can be better to visit there rather than July and August.

How To Go :

There is no airport in Cinque Terre region or in La Spezia too. I arrived at La Spezia Central Train Station after 3 hours by train from Florence with an interchange in Pisa Station and i paid totally 14,40 euros. You can visit https://www.trenitalia.com/en.html and check ticket prices and time schedules. While there is no confirmation coming to mail adress from website , you will have to buy the ticket at train station. One of the best thing in Italy is the train lines. Train stations are always in the center and they work so often that you can move inside Italy so quickly.

Things To Do in La Spezia :

There is nothing special in the center of La Spezia. You can have some walk on the main street or on the port side. Also if you would like to get rid of your luggage , 5 mins by walk down the hill on the left after leaving station , there a place which you can leave your luggage. System is totally automatic , first we paid 3 euros and then when are back , you pay another amount depends on the time you spent. I paid another 3 euros.

Things To Do in Cinque Terre :

You can buy a daily Cinque Terre Pass in La Spezia Station for 18,80 euros. You will be able to use trains all the day.

1-) Monterosso Al Mare :

After a 25 mins journey by train , you will arrive at Monterosso Al Mare ,the one on the most western. Compare to other villages , i didn’t like here much , but if you would like to swim , this village has the largest beach and much more comfy for swimming. Sunbed and sunshade will cost around 35 euros.

2-) Vernazza :

Our next station is Vernazza. You can reach at Vernazza Station in 4-5 mins by train from Monterosso Al Mare. Then you can be in the center after a very short walk.

3-) Corniglia :

Next station is Corniglia. After another 5 mins by train , you will reach at Corniglia Station. We passed Corniglia without visit while there is a 30 mins walk to Corniglia center from the station.

4-) Manarola :

Next station is Manarola. It is a really beautiful village. After a short climbing up , you can reach at a point which has a great view. Also you can visit the restaurant Nessun Dorma and enjoy your breakfast or lunch with a great view.

5-) Riomaggiore :

Our last stop in Cinque Terre is Riomaggiore. It is like a very small cove and really scenic. We complete our tour with Riomaggiore.

After a 10 mins journey by train , you will be back in Spezia Central Station and you can complete the tour in half day.

Note : Train is not the only option for Cinque Terre. If you are into trekking , you can also walk , but it will be tiring. Trains in Cinque Terre often delays. Also on your ticket you can watch out wifi connection password and use it at the stations.
